Youth Equipment

We love to see kids start shooting at an early age.  It is especially important to start them out right, though.  Give a child inferior equipment, and he or she is bound to get frustrated, and soon give up.  We believe in giving kids good equipment so that they can enjoy this fabulous sport.

Getting good equipment does not mean spending a lot.  Mathews has developed the Genesis series of bows to outfit young shooters with quality when they are at their most formative stage.  Allow them to shoot well at a young age, and they will acquire a lifelong love of archery.

Here are a few of the bows we recommend, depending on the child's age and intended use:

The Genesis Mini is a smaller version of the Original Genesis.  It is geared toward pre-schoolers and up, we generally recommend it for kids ages 3-8, but will vary by individual.

With a 'zero-let-off', there is no set draw length, the bow weighs only 2 pounds, and has adjustable draw weights of 6 to 12 pounds.

Like the Original Genesis, the Mini has only one cam. This means no tuning problems, much less recoil, more accurate shooting, and less noise.

• 29 1/8" axle-to-axle length
• 6 1/8" brace height
• Adjustable draw weight 6-12 pounds
• Draw length range of 14-25 inches
• 2 pounds mass weight
• Carbon cable guard
• Four popular flavors (red cherry, blue raspberry, black licorice and camo)
• 77 11/16" string length
• 30 13/16" cable length

the Original Genesis

Official bow of the National Archery in the Schools Program!

As we said above with the Mini, we love to see kids start learning young. Camoflauge Genesis For kids that are about ages 6 to 10, this is a great place to start.  It fits anyone, really, with a draw length of 15 to 30" since it has no draw stop.  Grandma and Grandpa can pick up this bow and shoot with the kids, too, without having to adjust a thing!

The Genesis is a 'zero-let-off' bow, there is no set draw length, the bow has adjustable draw weights of 10 to 20 pounds.  When the Genesis is set to 20 pounds, it stores the same amount of energy as a 35 lb recurve bow.

The new Genesis™ bow has just one cam. This means no tuning problems, much less recoil, more accurate shooting, and less noise.

  • Kids can't outgrow it - because there is no specific draw length requirement.
  • It's simple to buy - no need to measure and fit for draw length.
  • It's easy to shoot - because the draw length is always right, the beginning archer won't develop bad habits caused by an ill-fitting bow.
  • Great for families - everybody in the family can shoot the same bow.
  • Built to last - durable and tough, these bows can take the punishment that multiple shooters can dish out.Genesis Kit

Menace (Mission by Mathews)

This is probably our favorite bow for youth.  It is great for kids around age 10 and up.  It is a 2 cam bow, so it does need to be tuned, but this 2 cam system allows for adjustable draw length as the child grows.  The draw length is easily adjusted with a simple allen wrench, eliminating the need for a bow press.

Menace™ cams provide draw length adjustability from 17 to 30 inches (in one inch increments).  As you change the draw length, the draw weight also adjusts up to 52 lbs at 30 inches (see chart). This kind of flexibility, as well as being only 2.92 pounds makes the Menace a great bow to grow with.  At the proper draw and weight, this bow is even ready to take down your child's first buck.

features:

  • 70% Let Off
  • 31" axle to axle
  • 7.25" brace height
  • fully machined riser
  • rubberized grip

colors:  Real Tree Advantage Max 4 HD, Black, Red, Blue, Orange, Yellow, Green, Pink

UX-2 (Mission by Mathews)

The Mission UX2™ introduces the all-new patented 2CPW™ modular system, the most innovative cam system for introductory bows on the market.  It is a 2 cam bow, so it does need to be tuned, but this 2 cam system allows for adjustable draw length as the child grows.  The draw length is easily adjusted with a simple allen wrench, eliminating the need for a bow press.

The addition of perimeter weights to the cams makes the UX2™ so smooth and quiet, it matches the feel of typical competitors' parallel limb bows.

Draw length adjustability ranging from 22 to 30 inches, combined with 70% let off, makes the UX2™ a smart choice.

  • 308 fps IBO rating
  • 70% let off
  • 33.125 in axle to axle
  • 7 inch brace height
  • rubberized grip
  • string grubs
